Throughout the year, students will develop a better understanding of my expectations on various tasks. At the beginning of the year, I will verbally give my expectations before every task. As the students progressively become more trained in my expectations, they will be able to transition to different tasks without my instruction.
Below is an example of my expectations when transitioning into group work. This CHAMPs exercise sheet is implemented by Dr. Randall Sprick and can be used for any transitional task. Every one of my classroom transitions will use the CHAMPs format.
Motivation
My classroom will be very active and energetic. I expect my students to be open to the various types of learning implementations we will use throughout the year. Students should be prepared to explore history in a variety of ways that may be different from any history class they have taken before. See more about the methods we will use in the Technology section.
Classroom Rules
The following rules apply to EVERY student and every class exercise.
BELIEVE and have CONFIDENCE in yourself
RESPECT fellow students and faculty
Strive for EXCELLENCE in every aspect of this class
Follow all rules in Student Handbook
Discipline
Failure to follow any of the classroom rules will result in discipline using the following method*:
First occurrence- Verbal warning from teacher
Second occurrence- Individual discussion with teacher
Third occurrence- Punishment Box assignment (see below for more information)
The Punishment Box consists of various exercises and assignments relating to history. Students who are given Punishment Box assignments draw from the Box ONCE, and randomly select an exercise. Examples include, but are not limited to:
Summarizing the unit chapter with timelines and definitions
3-4 page research paper on a specific subject within the unit chapter
Creating a test for the unit chapter
Making a class presentation on researched subject from the unit chapter
Due dates of assignments are to be determined by myself. Failure to complete a Punishment Box assignment will result in immediate Administrative referral/parent contact.
Accommodation
*I reserve the right to accommodate specific punishments in emergency cases.
